Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly conference athlete of the week recipients Monday with Hawks graduate forward/guard
Brianna Fitzgerald earning her 11th career weekly honor and third of the 2025-26 season.
Fitzgerald averaged a double-double in the Hawks' three-game slate to leader her team to their 11th straight win and ninth 20-plus win season in program history, including their sixth in the last seven years. In the four years Fitzgerald has been active for SUNY New Paltz, the team has a record of 89-18, including 47-5 in the Hawk Center.
She opened the week with a 16-point, 13-rebound performance in a 61-50 win over Oswego, shooting 60 percent from the floor while adding two assists and five steals in 27 minutes. Fitzgerald only needed to play 25 minutes in an 83-59 rout over Buffalo State Friday night, flirting with a triple-double as she finished with 14 points, six rebounds, a game-high eight assists, a block and five steals while shooting 70 percent from the field. The Dix Hills, NY native carried the Hawks to a hard-fought, 57-53 victory over Fredonia Saturday in the team's home regular season finale in the Hawk Center. She scored a game-high 22 points on 7-for-18 shooting with a team-high 11 rebounds and added six assists, five blocks and five steals while also hitting the go-ahead shot to push her team ahead, while also recording the game winning stop with a block in the final seconds, which forced the Blue Devils to intentionally foul ultimately putting Fitzgerald back on the foul line where she iced the game after hitting both attempts in the four-point win.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Friday, going on the road to face Oneonta at 5:30 p.m.
