Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Monday with Hawks junior pitcher
Michael Weed named to his first SUNYAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week accolade.
The Pine Bush, NY native earned the start in Game 1 of the Hawks' opening SUNYAC series Friday against Fredonia State and helped his team improve to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while notching his first win of the year in an ace performance. Weed tossed 7.1 innings and had a no-hitter going through the top of the seventh, finishing the day yielding just two hits, three walks and matched a career-high eight strikeouts in a 10-0 shutout over the Blue Devils.
Fredonia didn't register its first hit of the game over Weed until there were two outs in the seventh with the former St. Rose transfer finishing the game with an ERA of 0.00, WHIP of .68 and a k/9 of 9.82. Weed also added one assist defensively to hold a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
