New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz put an end to a two-game losing skid with a rout of visiting St. Joseph's-Long Island Saturday on North Turf Field, 21-3.
The Hawks (2-2 overall) were the superior team in all aspects and showed as such scoring five-straight within the first eight minutes. The Golden Eagles cut into the run 10 minutes in for their first goal of the game with just more than four minutes left in the quarter.
SUNY New Paltz stood firm on its first man-down penalty with junior captain
Amy Whitman sliding in the middle and forcing a charge for the turnover. After Whitman helped clear, the Hawks milked the remaining seconds of the card and at full strength, senior captain
Lexi Atwater capitalized, driving and painting the far-left pipe for the score. Atwater scored again following a draw win by senior
Mia Baldinger. Baldinger won another on the circle, resulting in a nice goal by sophomore attacker
Tiana Zarcone. Baldinger then capped the quarter, getting to goal and moving the St. Joseph's-LI goalie on a pump fake before neatly placing her team's 10th score of the game into the back of the net.
Baldinger fed Atwater on a man-up goal to start the second quarter to provide a running clock on the 10-goal difference.
Ava Padilla helped pad the score to 12-1, checking the ball out of the goalie's stick on the ride and scoring on the open net with 10 minutes to go.

The Golden Eagles broke into the 10-goal difference with a goal after a draw control win to cut the score to 12-3 with about four minutes left in the half. However, the visitors helped SUNY New Paltz to another man-up opportunity as Baldinger was cross-body checked while scanning around the 8-meter, resulting in a yellow card. Atwater made the mistake pay, finishing on a feed from Padilla to re-establish the 10-point cushion and running clock, which the Hawks maintained the rest of the game.
Izzy Miraglia played the last half in net for SUNY New Paltz, and the sophomore posted a shutout in her 2026 debut. She finished the game with three saves, tying a career high.
Padilla led the team with eight points on three goals and five assists, while adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Atwater also had eight points, tallying six goals and two assists to go along with three ground balls and two draw controls.
Allison Beattie recorded a career-high five goals and seven points after adding two assists and two ground balls.
Baldinger contributed all over the field, finishing with two goals, three assists and a team-leading seven ground balls, three caused turnovers and four draw controls. Whitman also added three caused turnovers, three ground balls and a draw control to lead the team defensively.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Wednesday, hosting Manhattanville on North Turf Field at 3 p.m.
