Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Monday morning with Hawks junior first baseman
Ella Sharrock earning her first SUNYAC Player of the Week honors.
Sharrock was the catalyst in an exciting opening weekend in Ashland, Virginia last Saturday and Sunday. In an upset over No. 7 nationally ranked and hosting Randolph-Macon March 1, Sharrock led off the game with a game-opening solo home run to give her team the lead. She finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an extra base hit and an RBI. In a Game 2 six-inning rout of Marymount, Sharrock picked up where she left off, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, a home run and four RBI. She again led off with a first-inning solo shot before rocking a two-run double in her second at-bat before producing another RBI double in the fourth to push the lead to 8-1.
The Selden, NY native was one of five players to register a hit the following day in a re-match against Randolph-Macon, and the only Hawk to tally two hits against the nationally ranked Yellow Jackets, as she finished the game going 2-for-3. In the final game of the weekend against Meredith College, Sharrock was one of four players to earn a hit in a tough, 5-1 loss. She finished the game going 1-for-2 and scored the team's lone run.
Overall, Sharrock opened up her junior season going 8-for-16 with six runs, two doubles, two home runs and five RBI, striking out just once after hitting .615 with an on-base-percentage of .643 and slugging percentage of 1.231, while totaling 16 bases and four extra base hits.
