Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly award winners Monday with Hawks junior defender
Amy Whitman named to her third SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honor.
The accolade comes on the heels of career performances from the junior captain as she collected her third SUNYAC weekly honor of her career, also earning the same recognition March 23 and March 30.
Whitman helped the Hawks anchor in defensively with two road SUNYAC wins on the week over Oneonta April 8 and Buffalo State April 11. In an 11-7 victory over the Red Dragons, Whitman led all players in ground balls (7) and caused turnovers (7). She tied a career-high in ground balls, while setting a career-high in caused turnovers with the former ranking tied for fourth most in the program's single game record books and the latter ranking tied for third most in single game history. She additionally took reps on the draw circle and picked up two draw controls and was one of the main reasons why SUNY New Paltz held Oneonta to one of its lowest offensive performances on the season, allowing the opposition to just 11 shots on goal.
Whitman backed that performance Saturday, totaling three ground balls and a game-high six caused turnovers in a 14-7 victory over the Bengals.
