New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz rolled to a 20-2 win over visiting Plattsburgh Wednesday afternoon on North Turf Field to win its third straight game.
Lexi Atwater was the highlight, as the senior was a point and a goal shy of tying the single game record in both categories which are both held by 2025 alumna
Kaitlyn Shaw. Atwater, though, set personal bests as she finished with eight goals and 11 points on the day, while totaling a game-high 11 shots, all of which were on target, while adding three draw controls.
SUNY New Paltz (10-4 overall, 6-1 SUNYAC) dominated throughout, holding the Cardinals without a look at cage in both the second and third quarters with their sole two goals coming in the final seven minutes of the game.
The Hawks ultimately out-shot Plattsburgh, 40-8 with 30 shots on goal to the visitors' seven. The Cardinals truly struggled on the draw, totaling seven violations to help pad SUNY New Paltz's advantage in the category, 16-6.
After taking a 3-0 lead at the end of the first, SUNY New Paltz went off with a nine-goal run in the second quarter to gain a running clock and took a lead as large as 19 before the Cardinals scored their first goal with about 6:30 remaining.
Allison Beattie followed Atwater with five points on two goals and three assists, while adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Mia Baldinger and
Ava Padilla contributed with two goals and two assists apiece with Baldinger also adding three ground balls, a caused turnover and three draws.
Sam Wohlmut paced the Hawks defense, collecting a game-high four ground balls and added a game-high three caused turnovers.
Izzy Miraglia earned her first career start and secured her first career win after posting a shutout in 30 minutes, while tallying four saves.
SUNY New Paltz concludes its regular season home schedule Saturday, hosting SUNY Oswego on North Turf Field at noon.
