Annadale-on-Hudson, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz extended its winning streak to six games after a dominant performance on the road over Bard Wednesday, earning an 11-1 seven-inning victory.
The Hawks platooned their pitching staff with
Linus Oudom,
Dalton Rutt,
Sean Olley and Dylan Thommason all throwing efficient innings of work as they limited the Raptors to just two hits in the game. Oudom received the win after getting the start and improved his overall record to 3-1 on the year.
SUNY New Paltz used an explosive nine-run second inning that led to the run-ruled seven-inning victory.
Harry Baliber scored the game's first run to give the Hawks the initial lead to start the top of the second.
Nathan Pimentel then ripped an RBI single to score
Luca Sieger to double the lead.
Tommy Poggi followed with an RBI base hit, platting
Jagger Duque who earned a base on a bunt single two batters earlier.
Johnny McHugh and
Tommy Benfer both earned an RBI after getting hit by a pitch and taking a walk with the bases loaded.
Robert Gregory cleared some room on the base paths, swinging for a two RBI single through the right side of the infield that brought McHugh and
Louis Kaleb home, cushioning the lead to 8-0. Baliber then capped the frame, returning to the batter's box and coming through with an RBI on a groundout to short, scoring Gregory.
McHugh brought Poggi home in the fifth, which created a 10-0 advantage for the Hawks. After the Raptors answered with their first run in the bottom half to break up the shutout, Gregory started the sixth with a base hit before getting moved over into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Baliber. Duque eventually platted Gregory two batters later, rifling an RBI base hit to shallow center to cap the offense for the day and helping his team to a quick 11-1 win.
Poggi, Kaleb Gregory and Duque each had two hits in the game. Gregory finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Duque hit 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Poggi finished 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Kaleb went 2-for-4 with a run.
SUNY New Paltz hopes to keep its winning streak alive Thursday and Friday as it concludes its regular season SUNYAC schedule with a three-game series at home against Plattsburgh Thursday and Friday on Loren Campbell Field.
The Hawks are set to host the Cardinals Thursday at 3 p.m. before returning for a doubleheader starting at noon Friday.
