NEW PALTZ, NY – Junior goalkeeper Jess Centeri has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week following a standout week of play, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Centeri becomes the first player in program history to earn an NJAC Defensive Player of the Week accolade, enjoying a stellar week between the posts while collecting 18 saves at a 90 percent clip.
The Selden native started the week against a red-hot RPI Engineers offense, turning away nine shots in the midweek effort.
Centeri returned Saturday with another tough task at hand, taking on No. 16 William Smith. The standout junior helped lead the Hawks' defense through a lockdown 90 minutes, stonewalling nine shots to collect her conference-leading fourth clean sheet of the season. Centeri's effort helped SUNY New Paltz upset the nationally ranked Herons, securing the program's first regular season win over a ranked opponent.
Centeri and the Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 30 for their first-ever NJAC contest, hosting No. 22 Montclair State in a midweek matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
