NEW PALTZ, NY – Junior forward Abby Macleod has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week following a rock-solid week of play, as announced by the conference office Monday.
Macleod becomes the first player in program history to earn an NJAC Offensive Player of the Week accolade, enjoying a standout week in which the North Babylon native found the back of the net twice across two contests.
Macleod started the week by firing in the lone goal in the Hawks' midweek matchup against RPI on North Turf. The junior broke through in the 84th minute, finding the back of the net for her third goal in five games.
The ever-consistent Abby Macleod followed with the season's biggest goal yet in Saturday's non-conference clash against nationally ranked No. 16 William Smith. With the game still scoreless late in the second half, MacLeod rocketed a shot through contact and into the top of the net in the 78th minute, lifting SUNY New Paltz to a 1-0 upset victory over the nationally ranked Herons and helping secure the first weekly conference honor of her career. This would be the first regular season victory over a ranked opponent in program history.
Macleod and the Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 30 for their first-ever NJAC contest, hosting No. 22 Montclair State in a midweek matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
