Softball Splits; Remains Fifth in SUNYAC

BRPCKPORT, NY- The New Paltz softball team earned a hard fought split today with the Brockport Golden Eagles by the scores of 6-1 and 5-1.  The Hawks took game two, as they capitalized on five errors by Brockport to up their record to 18-14 overall and 8-6 in the SUNYAC.  Brockport record now stands at 27-9 overall and 9-7 in the   SUNYAC.

In game one, Brockport's Stephanie Geer scattered five hits and struck out 11, while only allowing one run to earn her 14th victory on the mound this season.  Jillian Gallagher finished 2-for-3 with a double and one run and Melyssa Cilmi was 1-for-3 with one RBI.  Rose Dovi was 1-for-3 and Jenna Curcio was 1-for-2 for the Hawks.

Gallagher took the loss for the Hawks on the mound, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and struck out two in two and two third innings.

In the nightcap, the Hawks capitalized on five miscues by the Golden Eagles to take the game 5-1.  Alyssa Oliva threw a complete game five hitter and struck out three and allowed one run for her eighth win on the mound.  Cilmi the led attack for the Hawks with a 2-for-4 performance from the plate and added three RBI and Gallagher was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.  Casandra Barcavage was 1-for-1 with one run as a pinch hitter. 

The Hawks got on the board first with an RBI groundout by Cilmi that scored Gallagher from third.  The Hawks put another on the board in the third with an RBI single up the middle from Cilmi, scoring Erin Fitzpatrick from second. 

Brockport cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth when Nicki Odrobina had an RBI single that scored Amanda Smith.  The Hawks added insurance runs in the top of the seven as Melissa Liotta had an RBI and Cilmi added an RBI groundout.  The third run was scored by Barcavage on an error.

Kelly Briscoe took the loss on the mound for Brockport as she allowed five runs, two earned, on five hits and struck out seven.

The Hawks will return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Geneseo.
