Meet Results

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Senior Rob Webb (Hillsborough, N.J.) won three events to lead the Hawks, but the State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team (3-4) was unable to overcome the depth of SUNY Cortland (6-2), as the Red Dragons edged the host Hawks, 135-127, in a Senior Day dual meet on Friday afternoon in Elting Pool.

Webb started his dominance in the 200 butterfly, covering the race in 2:03.41. He then cruised to a 2:19.29 victory in the 200 breaststroke and capped off his afternoon with a first-place time of 2:02.23 in the 200 butterfly.

Senior Billy Papetti (Long Beach, N.Y.) was a double-event winner for New Paltz. He completed the 50 freestyle in a first-place 21.81 before registering the gold standard in the 100 freestyle (50.21).

Junior Pete Nastasi (Monroe, N.Y.) and senior Matt Demerest (Long Beach, N.Y.) claimed one event each. Nastasi bested the 1000 freestyle field with a 10:17.69, while Demerest posted the top performance in the 100 butterfly (55.86).

The Hawks also upset the Red Dragons in both relays. Sophomore Bryan Farm (New City, N.Y.), senior Pat Rathbun (Long Valley, N.J.), Webb and Papetti teamed up for a first-place swim of 1:40.56 in the 200 medley relay, while the quartet of Papetti, junior Jeremy Borrelli (Vestal, N.Y.), Demerest and Rathbun charted the gold standard in the 200 freestyle relay (1:28.26).

New Paltz concludes its dual-meet season on Saturday, Jan. 29, when it travels to Hoboken, N.J., to contest the Stevens Institute of Technology. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
