KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomores
Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y.) and
Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and senior
Becky Baker (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) represented the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team on the third day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Friday morning, swimming one individual event each.
Because the Hawks have not qualified for any of the evening sessions, they have not registered a team score.
Marshall kicked off the morning in the lone non-circle-seeded 200 butterfly heat and used a strong front half to clock a 2:08.61, placing 26th of 30 swimmers competing in the event. Suzuka took on the 100 backstroke next, covering the event in 59.01, good for 32nd overall out of 39 swimmers. Finally, Baker went a 1:06.18 in the 100 breaststroke to take 26th out of a 33-person field.
Tomorrow, junior
Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y.) returns to action, swimming the 100 freestyle, while Suzuka competes in the 200 backstroke. The Hawks will also put together a 400 freestyle relay contingent, which will include all four New Paltz swimmers.
The 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships are co-hosted by Beloit College and the College of Wooster at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee. The meet runs from Wednesday, March 23, through Saturday, March 26, with prelims and finals starting at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, each day.
