Women’s Volleyball Knocks off Amherst, Hamilton in Tri-Match

CLINTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team (17-3) closed out the month of September with a bang, topping Amherst College (6-4), 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23), before handing host Hamilton College (6-9) a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-19) setback on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Both contests were non-conference matches.

Against Amherst, junior setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) paced the team with an impressive statistical line that included 47 assists and 25 digs. Senior outside hitter Michelle Jacobson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) had 18 kills and 24 digs, while freshman outside hitter Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) floored 11 kills and collected 15 digs. Senior middle hitter Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) also chipped in with 10 kills and three total blocks.

Versus Hamilton, Jacobson led the way with 11 kills and 11 digs, while junior libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) came up with 16 digs. Borquist landed eight kills and totaled 14 digs, while King dished out 28 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Alli Coleman (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) patrolled the net defensively with three block assists and one block solo.

New Paltz returns to action next weekend at Springfield College's Tom Hay Women's Volleyball Invitational, which runs from Friday, Oct. 5, through Saturday, Oct. 6.
