NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's lacrosse team will start off its 2014 season with a visit down the Thruway to Newburgh, N.Y., for a non-conference contest against Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m.

RECORDS: New Paltz ended the 2013 season with an overall record of 4-10 while Mount Saint Mary went 10-8… Mount Saint Mary is 0-1 overall this year so far.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS (0-0): New Paltz went 4-2 in non-conference games while struggling to add conference wins to its record last year, as the Hawks went 0-8 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play… After graduating only three seniors, the Hawks have a lot of returning talent on the field this season as well as four newcomers… Offensively, three of New Paltz's top-four leading scorers from 2013 are all returning: senior attacker Talia Tesler (36), junior midfielder Lianne Valdivia (34) and junior midfielder Carissa Citro (18)… Junior midfielder/defender Julia Johnson and senior defender Maggie Rose Melito are back to lead the Hawk defense, while junior goalkeeper Jackie Ulanoff will help out the Hawks in net, as she ranked first in the conference for saves per game, averaging 10.14.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (0-1): The Knights fell in their season opener to Hartwick College, 15-9… Mount Saint Mary scored four goals in the first half, two coming from freshman attacker Katie Gattoni, and managed to net five more in the second half… Gattoni had a hat trick off of three goals, while sophomore defender Claire Duffy had finished with three points off of two goals and an assist… Senior defender Molly Bauer came up with a game-high six ground balls… Sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Ray suffered the loss and stopped nine shots.

LAST MEETING: New Paltz took down Mount Saint Mary, 16-5, last season on March 25, 2013, at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, N.Y.
