NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team looks to make a playoff push, as the Hawks travel to SUNY Plattsburgh to play three State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games this Friday, starting at 3 p.m. The Hawks will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.

RECORDS: The Hawks enter the weekend with a 12-17, 4-9 SUNYAC record, while Plattsburgh State is 9-17,4-8 SUNYAC.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS  (12-17, 4-9 SUNYAC): New Paltz lost to The College of Brockport, 4-2,  on Sunday, April 13 in Loundonville, N.Y... In a close game, Brockport's timely hitting ultimately helped boost the Golden Eagles to victory... Despite the loss, the Hawks received solid outings from several players… Sophomore starting pitcher, Christian Huertas  pitched seven innings, giving up just six hits and one earned run... Sophomore catcher, Tyler Bell led the offense, going 2-for-5 with a double, and one RBI.

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Sophomore Andrew Dinardo  and senior Steven Morse  are currently tied for the team high in base hits with 28, which is 11th best in the conference... Morse also has a team high batting average (.350), which places him ninth in the conference... Junior Sean Hansen is leading the conference in doubles with nine, while junior outfielder, Richard Guido is close behind with seven, which ranks fourth in the conference... Senior pitcher, Chris Pyz has pitched the most innings on the mound for the Hawks (37), with a 3.41 ERA with 23 strikeouts... Senior pitcher Andrew Grann leads the team in strikeouts (39), which puts him fourth in the SUNYAC.

TEAM STATISTICS: New Paltz ranks fifth in the conference in team batting average (.269)...The pitching staff has done a strong job on the mound this year, securing the second lowest team ERA in the conference (3.73) and the second most strikeouts in the conference (155)… New Paltz also has an impressive team .947 fielding percentage.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS (9-17, 4-8 SUNYAC): The Cardinals lost to SUNY Cortland, 4-5, in a SUNYAC matchup in Loundonville, N.Y. on Sunday, April 13... Plattsburgh was leading 4-2 going into the last inning, until the Red Dragons mounted a three-run comeback capped off by the opposing catchers walk-off single…Junior Mike Vargues pitched 8.1 innings and suffered the loss, although he shut down the potent Cortland offense for most of the game... Plattsburgh only had four hits on the day, coming from junior Frank Buksa, junior Brian Latulipe, sophomore Yuya Osawa and junior Chris Pescetti.

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS: Junior outfielder, Nicholas Lupo is batting .315 and has a team high 29 hits, which ranks 10th in the conference... Lupo also has three doubles and 12 RBI on the season.. Pescetti is leading the team in RBI with 18 and is currently ranked sixth in the conference... Senior pitcher Joe Leddy is undefeated (3-0) on the mound through 40.2 innings... Leddy has 19 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.10, which ranks 11th in the SUNYAC…. Junior pitcher J.D. Jenkins has pitched 39.2 innings for the Cardinals and has an ERA of 2.52, which ranks ninth in the conference.

TEAM STATISTICS: Plattsburgh is batting .242 as a team this season... The Cardinal's pitching staff has a combined ERA of 5.22 with 109 strikeouts, which ranks 3rd in the conference...They are fielding .952.

LAST MEETING: The Hawks swept the Cardinals in a three-game set, 6-4, 7-0, and 3-2 on April 19 and April 20, 2013. The game recaps are shown below.

WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz will host non-conference opponent Ithaca College in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. at Loren Campbell Field... The Cardinals will travel to Lyndonville, Vt. on Tuesday, April 22 to take play non-conference opponent Lyndon State College at 3 p.m.
