Results WEEHAWKEN, N.J. – In the first competition of the 2014 season, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's cross country team defeated Stevens Institute of Technology 23 to 32 on Friday night at Weehawken Waterfront Park.
Senior
Mike Scher (New York City, NY/The Beacon School) won the 3200 meter run with his time of 9:40.47, more than eight seconds ahead of the next finisher, sophomore
Galo Vasquez (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas), who recorded a mark of 9:48.63.
Freshman
Nick Cruz (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) posted a third-place reading of 9:49.09 in his first collegiate action and senior
Dave Lukas (Verona, NJ/Verona) ran a 9:54.41, good for seventh overall. Junior
Jeremy Mulvey (Staten Island, NY/Port Richmond) finished in eighth place, crossing the finish in 10:04.25.

Josh Greenberg (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) ran the next fastest mark for the Hawks with his time of 10:26.71, followed by junior
Matt Farragher (North Chatham, NY/Ichabod Crane) (10:27.68), junior
Ian Detweiler (Lake Katrine, NY/Kingston) (10:33.55), junior
Zach Wahl (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) (10:34.89), sophomore
Josh Korn (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) (10:36.79) and sophomore
Christian Van Pak (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (10:36.84), who all finished in the top-25 of the event.
37 runners for both New Paltz and Stevens participated in the first home cross country meet at Stevens in four years.
The Hawks will compete in the Vassar Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 6. Last season the men and women both captured the team title at the event.
Rob Gorski (Warwick, NY/S.S. Seward) took home first-place honors at the meet.
