NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team will take on Mount Saint Mary and Oneonta in separate dual meets this weekend from Jan. 23-24.
RECORDS: The Hawks are 1-1 at home and 2-2 overall this season… Mount Saint Mary is 6-4 in dual meets… Oneonta has a record of 3-3 overall and 1-1 away record at dual meets.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS (2-2): The Hawks recently had a tough non-conference loss to Ramapo College on Monday, falling to the Roadrunners 159-103… Senior
Jack Spader led the way in the meet with two wins in the 1,000 freestyle (10:25.21) and 500 freestyle (5:01.74)… Another impact swimmer for the Hawks was junior
Will Koenig, who claimed first in the 50 freestyle (22.38)… Last season against the Knights, then-sophomore
Rod Taskindoust won the 1,000 free (10:41.11)… Then-sophomore
Ethan Cooke claimed first in the 100 fly (56.61) and then-sophomore
Ryan Lindgren won the 100 free (52.41)… Versus Oneonta, Lindgren won the 200 breast (2:26.30).
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS (6-4): The Knights just came off a Skyline Conference win against Mount Saint Vincent, 101-23, on Jan. 17… Junior Christopher Sagan had a big day in the conference meet by winning the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.00) and claiming first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.86)… Against New Paltz last year, Sagan placed second in the 1,000 free (12:09.61), the 500 free (5:48.41) and 100 breast (1:13.00)… Then-sophomore Sam Watson won the 100 back (1:00.22).
LAST DUAL MEET: New Paltz defeated Mount Saint Mary 111-79 when these two teams last met on Jan. 24, 2014.
SCOUTING THE RED DRAGONS (3-3): In their last competition, the Red Dragons won a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) meet against The College at Brockport, 141-76… Oneonta won the 400-yard medley by junior Joseph Morgan, junior Lucas Santiago, freshman Zeke Brynin, and senior Merrick Shawe with a time of 3:47.81… Versus New Paltz last year, then-sophomore Stephen Penteck won the 1,000 free (10:19.86)… Then-junior Colton Roe won the 200 free (1:48.42) and the 200 back (1:57.97)… Santiago placed first in the 200 IM (2:05.47) and second in the 200 fly (2:07.84)… Then-junior Donaghy won the 500 free (5:03.42).
LAST DUAL MEET: New Paltz fell at Oneonta 113-87 when these two programs last met on Jan. 25, 2014.
WHAT'S NEXT: New Paltz competes at Geneseo on Saturday, Jan. 31 in the final tune-up meet before the 2015 SUNYAC Championships from Feb. 19-21… Mount Saint Mary hosts Lehman on Jan. 24 before competing in the Skyline Championships from Jan. 30-31… Oneonta competes in the Ithaca Diving Invite on Sunday, Jan. 25.
