Meet ResultsNEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Matched up against SUNY Oneonta in its final home meet of the 2014-15 season on Saturday at Elting Pool, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team utilized numerous strong individual performances to top the Red Dragons, 142-120.
Freshman
Molly McCulloch (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) ignited the Hawks' success with two individual event wins in addition to participating on two winning relays. McCulloch touched out her middle-of-the-pool opponent in the 100 backstroke (1:03.52) to take first before establishing a pool record in the 100 butterfly (58.33). McCulloch's 100 butterfly swim, which also rattled the program record in the event (58.20), bettered the former facility standard of 59.45 set by New Paltz's Carly Marshall in 2013.
The Hawks, who rise to 6-0 overall in dual meets with the win, face perennial powerhouse SUNY Geneseo on the road on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. in their final tune-up before the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, which run from Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 19-21, at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. The Red Dragons drop to 5-2 overall and next compete as a full team at SUNY Cortland on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m.
In addition to McCulloch's success, junior
Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central) also played a large role in the Hawks' win. Griger touched first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.08) and the 100 freestyle (56.20) while placing second in the 500 freestyle (5:26.67).
Senior
Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) also won an individual event, pacing the field in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.96).
New Paltz kicked off the meet by winning the 200 medley relay, as the foursome of Griger, Granan, McCulloch and freshman
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) posted the event's top time of 1:53.83. The Hawks' 200 freestyle relay quartet of McCulloch, senior
Kat Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill) and juniors
Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and

Other second-place finishes came from Buyes in the 1,000 freestyle (11:25.58), Joseph in the 50 freestyle (26.11), Graffin in the 200 backstroke (2:21.17), Granan in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.72) and junior
Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) in the 100 butterfly (1:03.73).
