Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team pitched a no-hitter for the second time in as many days, but the Hawks had to settle for a split on Friday during their final day at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. New Paltz no-hit York (N.Y.) College, 11-0, before suffering an 8-3 setback at the hands of Frostburg State University.
New Paltz rises to 7-3 overall and is slated to play a doubleheader at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday, March 25, at 3 p.m. York falls to 0-5, while Frostburg State rises to 8-3.

Meg Brewer (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) and freshman pitcher
Lauren Cappello (New City, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) combined for a no-hitter in the Hawks' first game of the day, with a catcher's interference call being the lone blemish on New Paltz's ledger.
While the margin was not as lopsided as Thursday's score, a 24-0 verdict, New Paltz still produced offensively. The Hawks plated six runs in the first, two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth while scattering 12 hits.

Megan Carbia (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles and two runs scored to pace the Hawk attack, while freshman left fielder
Danielle Bruno (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman shortstop
Samantha Colca (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) hit two of the harder legs of the cycle, collecting a double and a triple in a 2-for-2 outing at the plate.
Brewer struck out six batters in three innings of work before handing the ball off to Cappello, who fanned three hitters in two frames of relief duty.
Frostburg State 8, New Paltz 3 A five-run first inning ultimately proved to be the difference in New Paltz's nightcap tilt, as the Bobcat bats combined for 15 hits throughout the course of the contest.
In the top of the first, Frostburg State powered up its offense early, plating two runs before the Hawks recorded their first out. When the dust settled, the Bobcats forged a 5-0 lead before New Paltz's hitters stepped into the batter's box.

Frostburg State, however, scored two more runs in the second inning and touched home once more in the third to construct an 8-2 advantage. The middle innings saw little action offensively, though Brewer did give New Paltz one more run with a solo homer to left field in the seventh.
Brewer went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a home run to lead the Hawks, while freshman pitcher Allison Short batted 4-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Bobcats. Junior center fielder Taylor Blevins (3-for-5, two runs scored, two doubles) and sophomore designated player Hannah Tavik (3-for-4, three RBI, two runs scored, one home run) also had impressive offensive performances for Frostburg State.

Short hurled a solid game for Frostburg State, scattering just three hits while striking out seven.
