Albright 8, New Paltz 0 (5 inn.) Albright pushed across eight runs off nine hits to down New Paltz, 8-0, in five innings.
The Lions got on the board in the second off a two-run triple by freshman left fielder Corinne Garuffe and a sacrifice fly by freshman center fielder Madison Bear. Albright extended its lead with a three-run third and a two-run fourth, and with two Hawk runners on base in the top of the fifth, the Lions induced a lineout to end the game due to the eight-run rule.
Sophomore left fielder
Julia Perhacs (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) batted 2-for-3 to lead the New Paltz offense, while freshman second baseman
Shannon Fee (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandermeulen) and junior pinch hitter
Megan Carbia (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) also notched hits for the Hawks. For Albright, sophomore first baseman Armida Roman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, freshman catcher Stephanie Pomante batted 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored and freshman right fielder Stephany Courtney hit 2-for-3 with one run scored and a stolen base.
Junior pitcher
Taylor Corwin (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) sustained the loss in the circle for the Hawks, yielding six runs (five earned) off five hits. Sophomore pitcher Riley Gerenda earned the win for Albright, scattering four hits and walking one in a five-inning shutout.
New Paltz 9, UW-Stout 1 (5 inn.) In the Hawks' third and final game on Friday, they used a four-run third and a four-run fifth to claim a 9-1 triumph over UW-Stout.
Sophomore right fielder
Danielle Bruno (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) put New Paltz on the board in the top of the second with an RBI triple, but freshman third baseman Alicia Meyer responded for the Blue Devils with an RBI base knock in the home half of the second to knot the score at 1-all.
New Paltz had its offense firing on all cylinders in the third. Perhacs led off the inning with a double, and after a groundout moved her over to third, Spriggs tripled to drive Perhacs in. DeCosta then singled to score Spriggs, prompting a Blue Devil pitching change. Rutcofsky then doubled to put runners at second and third with one out before sophomore second baseman
Samantha Colca (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) pushed across DeCosta with a single. Carbia drove in the final run of the inning off a groundout, staking New Paltz to a 5-1 advantage.
With two outs in the fifth, the Hawks once again produced a four-run inning. With runners on first and second, Perhacs drove in a run with a single before freshman shortstop
Taylor LaFrance (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) pushed across a run off an RBI single. Spriggs then cleared the bases with a two-run triple, which gave New Paltz a 9-1 lead. The Hawks took that edge into the bottom of the inning and kept the Blue Devils from scoring in the home half of the fifth to force the eight-run rule.
Perhacs and Spriggs each finished with 3-for-4 performances at the plate, with Perhacs scoring twice and driving in a run and Spriggs posting three RBI and scoring a run. Rutcofsky also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double. For UW-Stout, sophomore catcher Rachel Thomas led the way with a 2-for-3 outing at the dish while stealing a base.
Rutcofsky earned the win in the circle for the Hawks, allowing just one run off six hits and two walks while striking out two. Sophomore Beth Wood sustained the loss for UW-Stout, permitting four runs off six hits in 2 1/3 frames of duty.
UW-Stout 3, New Paltz 2 A go-ahead two-run home run by UW-Stout in the fifth inning proved to be the difference in the Hawks' lone game on Saturday, as the Blue Devils eked out a 3-2 victory.
After two-and-a-half scoreless frames, senior pitcher Tori Workman drove in senior shortstop Karley Wiensch with an RBI single in the third before Meyer blasted a two-run home run in the fourth to give the Blue Devils a 3-0 advantage. In the top of the fifth with one runner on, a Perhacs single and an error by the Blue Devils allowed both runners to cross the plate, and New Paltz pulled within a run at 3-2. UW-Stout clamped down in the sixth and seventh innings, however, preventing the Hawks from scoring the tying run to emerge with the 3-2 win.
Three Hawks registered a hit in the game, while Thomas and senior right fielder Sara Griesbach each had multi-hit performances for UW-Stout. Corwin shouldered the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) off seven hits while striking out one, while UW-Stout's Workman yielded just two unearned runs off three hits and two walks while striking out six.
