NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - A new era begins in 2016 for the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team as the Hawks welcome first-year head coach Kyle Clancy to the helm.

Clancy, who served as an assistant men's soccer coach at New Paltz for three seasons before his time at Sage, constructed one of the Skyline Conference's top men's soccer programs, which culminated in the Gators' first-ever conference title and first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in 2015.

Clancy, the 2015 Skyline Conference Coach of the Year, has achieved an overall career record of 65-39-11 for a .613 win percentage at Sage while winning two regular-season Skyline Conference championships and an ECAC Upstate Tournament championship.

For this season, Clancy has been getting his new team acclimated to his coaching philosophy and style.

"We've been focusing on the mentality of the players and winning in all that we do," Clancy explained. "We've been improving as a team throughout the spring and the preseason."

"The guys came in fit and ready to compete right away and the returners have done a great job adjusting to the new philosophies I've brought in and it's definitely an intelligent group."

"I'm excited; I love the competitiveness the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) brings and we want to make the playoffs. By focusing on our daily habits with a winning mentality and establishing a new culture, all the other things will follow."

Last season, the Hawks finished 10-8-1 (3-6 SUNYAC) but were on the outside looking in on the postseason. New Paltz finished 7-4-1 at home and lose leading scorer and Second Team All-SUNYAC selection Jason Gonzalez '16 (12 goals, 28 points).

New Paltz starts its season on Friday, Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. against Norwich in the SUNY Oswego Tournament. All home matches this season will be played at the South Turf Field.
