The State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (12-4 overall, 4-0 UVC) just came off an impressive weekend at home in which the Hawks didn't lose a set, sweeping United Volleyball Conference (UVC) opponent Elmira College (8-10, 1-3 UVC), along with Augustana College (5-9) on Saturday, and taking care of MIT (11-3, 3-3 UVC) Sunday. Now they prepare for Baruch College (6-7), a team they have not lost a set to since 2017.
SUNY New Paltz defeated Elmira College 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-16), Augustana College 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-16) and MIT 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-11) to give the team a great morale boost, as they put together a string of wins including two crucial victories in conference play
"Getting those three wins is big. It really boosted our confidence," said Hawks sophomore outside hitter Connor MacPhail. "We really needed to get those wins and get our morale up, and yeah, just good vibes all around."
MacPhail is looking forward to moving up in the NCAA rankings as well within the next stretch of games, as the Hawks have dropped down to No. 8 in the most recent NCAA Division III poll.
"People are gonna sleep on us cause we lost a few games, but we're gonna surprise some people," MacPhail added.
SUNY New Paltz is preparing to host another home game this week, as Baruch College visits Elting Gym. The Bearcats aren't having their best year so far, and were last ranked nationally back in 2015 at No. 10.
"We're preparing for Baruch by trying to the little things right," said Hawks junior outside hitter Riley Dolan. "We've gotten into a groove a few times this season but we're just a little inconsistent with it."
The Hawks will face Baruch College at 7 p.m. Thursday in Elting Gym.
