Still undefeated in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC), the State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team will have its toughest conference matchup of the year when it travels to Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday night.
"Coming back [from spring break] there was a lot of good vibes, and we're just trying to bring that with us later in the season," said Hawks junior libero Robert Nolan. "My freshman year we were kind of in the same boat, and what really helped us that year was a lot of team camaraderie. I'm really hoping everything goes well, we can make some memories and end the season on top."
SUNY New Paltz took a break this past week with classes not in session, as it hasn't played a match since March 16. The Hawks swiftly got back to action Monday night however, coasting to a 3-0 victory at home against Ramapo College.
SUNY New Paltz has found success against Stevens Institute of Technology in the past, sweeping the once No. 2 team in the country 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-21) in 2018, but the Hawks also lost to the Ducks 3-0 in 2017 (22-25, 18-25, 24-26).
A win against Stevens Institute of Technology is big for SUNY New Paltz's NCAA tournament hopes, as the Ducks are currently fourth in the nation, while the Hawks are seventh. The winner of the matchup will clinch the top seed in the UVC Tournament and will host the conference championship
"We know that this is the home stretch and that we really have to focus," said junior outside hitter Aaron Carrk. "We trying to keep it solid, fine tune some things, and not change a lot since it's the end of the season."
