New Paltz, NY-- Coming off an amazing season, with a conference championship and record-breaking winning streak, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team is looking to continue its success starting in 2019 and push passed the second round of the NCAA Tournament next spring.
The Hawks jump right into conference play to start the season, opening up in the Cortland Tournament Aug. 31 where they have historically been dominate. They are then on the road the following weekend to Plattsburgh before hosting their first home match of the season Sept. 11 against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on the North Tennis Courts.
In mid-September, SUNY New Paltz travel across the river looking to improve on its performance at the annual Vassar Tournament, where the Hawks participate against high-quality competition. Following the Vassar Tournament, they will head back into conference play against SUNY Oswego and SUNY Cortland Sept 20 and 21, respectively.
On Sept. 24 SUNY New Paltz will host the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons, the only team to put pressure on the Hawks last season. Their regular season matchup last fall saw SUNY New Paltz win by one match. They went on to beat the Red Dragons again in October to earn the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship title.
SUNY New Paltz concludes its fall regular season with back-to-back away SUNYAC games against Fredonia State and The College at Brockport before entering the conference tournament. The Hawks are expected to add more games on the schedule in the spring, but as of now they are set to face Stevens April 22 on the North Tennis Courts.
The SUNYAC Tournament is scheduled to take place on Oct. 12 & 13, in Binghamton.
