The State University of New York at New Paltz swimming team is set to take on Oneonta University on Saturday.
Â
The Hawks are coming off a much needed weekend off as they took on both SUNY Cortland and Western Connecticut University the week prior. SUNY New Paltz split the weekend by losing to Cortland but then taking down Western Connecticut.
Â
"Coming off the big win against Western Connecticut boosted our energy and reminded us that we love racing," said Hawks sophomore
Victoria Bogdanski.

SUNY New Paltz racked up 12 combined first place finishes against the Colonials making it an extra special senior day meet. The men won 87-67 as everyone got in on the success. The Hawks relays had strong performances as the men won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1 minute 47 seconds. SUNY New Paltz also won the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:07.36, edging out the Hawks B team by a tenth of a second.Â
Â
SUNY New Paltz's women's team beat Western Connecticut in dominant fashion, 83-57. Freshman
Kirsten Giovanniello returned from injury and immediately cashed in with two individual wins. Senior
Samantha Woll had a big day on senior day, as she placed first in the women's 100-yard freestyle and second place in the women's 50-yard freestyle. Â
Â
The Hawks are officially beginning their transition from longer distance sets into race pace work as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship meets is only five weeks away.
Â
"We've been training a lot of race pace training in order to prepare for Oneonta and ultimately SUNYACS." said SUNY New Paltz junior
Leo Litovsky.
Â
The last time these time the Hawks and Oneonta met in a meet was Elting Pool as SUNY New Paltz claimed wins on both the men's and the women's side. This time the Hawks will be on the visitors side, as they will be traveling up to Oneonta to take on the Red Dragons.
Â
The Red Dragons are coming off a loss to The College at Brockport in which they couldn't get much going. Oneonta's men lost 160-136, while the women fell, 179-116. The men's team will look to their freestylers to come up with some big points this weekend as they have been on a roll this season. The women will rely on their stroke group as they had some big points against Brockport last weekend.
This will be the Hawks' last dual meet of the year as they will be attending the Geneseo Invitational next weekend. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) meet will go from Feb. 20 to Feb. 23.
