New Paltz, N.Y.-- The State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team (13-3, 2-1 UVC) is looking to string together its fourth win in a row against Ramapo College (12-7) on Wednesday night.
The Hawks travel to Mahwah, New Jersey to face the Ramapo Roadrunners, who the Hawks have swept the past three years.
Senior captain Aaron Carrk is leading SUNY New Paltz with 212 kills, while his opposite partner Brendan Spulnick follows at 168 kills, but remains humble about his role in the team.
"I wouldn't say I necessarily lead the offense, I do get a lot of balls but we have a couple other kids who get a lot of reps," Carrk said. "I'm liking the way everybody's handling it. It's a big load to handle, just t
hree or four of us are getting a lot of balls."
SUNY New Paltz is scoring 13.3 kills per set this season, hitting at .298 percent compared to opponents' .208 percent and 9.4 kills per set.
Defensively, three Hawks are tied at 23 blocks each; Carrk, Spulnick and senior middle blocker Nick O'Malley.
SUNY New Paltz is on a three game winning streak, but knows that it needs every win at this point in the season.
"A lot of our games right now are extremely important," Carrk continued. "We lost to three of arguably the best teams in the country. It's a huge hit for our record, but we feel like we've learned from each loss and we're ready to move past them.Every game is critical now for the NCAAs so we're definitely going to put our foot on the pedal."
The senior outside hitter turned 22 on Tuesday, and can't wait to drive the Hawks to a win.
"A birthday win would be wonderful, we're prepared for Ramapo and we're going to use that game to go into our MIT United Volleyball Conference (UVC) game."
SUNY New Paltz plays in the Ramapo Roadrunners at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
