Two teams, both with six game winning streaks, both with the goal of making it to the NCAA tournament at season's end, clash at The State University of New York at New Paltz Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons of Oneonta and the Hawks of New Paltz match up for the second time this season in a crucial SUNYAC matchup at 2 p.m. in the Hawk Center.

Oneonta stands at 9-3 overall, coming off a strong showing at year's end at the D3Hoops Classic in Las Vegas. The Red Dragons defeated the University of Southern Maine 55-51 and Wellesley 49-32 to complete a perfect weekend with senior guard Meg Nardelli (Wappingers Falls, NY) earning All-Tournament honors.

 Oneonta is 4-1 in SUNYAC, their lone loss a 70-53 home decision to New Paltz on November 29. Their four conference wins came against Plattsburgh 55-34, Potsdam 63-53, Buffalo State 68-37, and Fredonia 60-51, teams New Paltz has also defeated. One of the Red Dragons three losses came against Mt. Saint Mary College 68-61, a team SUNY New Paltz defeated to open the season, 70-53. They are averaging 58.3 points per game, while allowing opponents 50.9 points a contest and have outrebounded the opposition 45.5 to 36.4 per game, creating 15.6 turnovers per game with 96 steals on the young season.

Leading Oneonta has been two seniors, the 5-foot, 10-inch Nardelli and 5'7 guard Olivia Debrovasky (Skaneateles, NY). Nardelli is averaging 10.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Against the Hawks in November, she had nine points and four rebounds. Dobrovasky is averaging 9.5 points and a team high 7.8 rebounds per game and has 26 assists. Against SUNY New Paltz she scored five points with four rebounds. Junior forward Jenna Harclerode (5'10, Sayville, NY) is third in scoring with 6.9 points per game, is second in rebounding at 7.6 rebounds per game and has added 24 assists. Against the Hawks, she had nine points, four assists and three rebounds. Sophomore forward/center Amanda Zuntag (6' 1", Staten Island, NY) is averaging six points and four rebounds per game. She scored eight points with four rebounds against SUNY New Paltz in November.

The Hawks are coming off a strong defensive showing in a 50-37 road win over Union College to close out 2022. With a 9-3 overall record, SUNY New Paltz is 5-0 in SUNYAC, tied with Cortland for the top spot on the young season. Their conference record includes road wins over Oneonta, Potsdam (77-47), Plattsburgh (74-60), Fredonia (64-53) and Buffalo State (92-26).

As a team, the Hawks are averaging 66.1 points per game, while limiting opponents to 49.4 points per game. They have outrebounded their foes 39.6 to 33.6 rebounds per game and have caused an average of 21.5 turnover per games, while averaging 11.1 steals a contest.

Brianna Fitzgerald (Dix Hills, NY). Named SUNYAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week Jan. 3, Fitzgerald is averaging 13 points and 7.3 rebounds per game with 35 assists and 29 steals. Against Oneonta in November, she scored 10 points with six rebounds and two assists. Junior guard
Jenny Walton (5'8, Glenwood Landing, NY) follows with nearly 10 points per game, along with 3.6 rebounds a contest and 19 steals. She scored eight points with five assists against Oneonta. Senior guard/forward
Maddie Gillis (5'9, Levittown, NY) is hitting for nearly seven points and four rebounds per game with 25 assists. Against Oneonta she led the team with 11 points with four rebounds and three assists. Junior forward
Abby Korzekwinski (6'0 Shoreham, NY) rounds out the top four scorers with
6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

The Hawks are looking for their third-straight series sweep over Oneonta with a win Saturday, while also staying atop the conference standings. They're set to face Oneonta at 2 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
