Syracuse, NY — After claiming its first conference win of the season Saturday and extending its winning streak to a record four games after two wins against Delhi and Plattsburgh, the State University of New York at New Paltz made program history once more Monday with junior goalie
Ryan Steinhart becoming the team's second ever SUNYAC Athlete of the Week recipient.
Steinhart was the catalyst in a historic week for the program, as he totaled 39 saves on 82 shots faced, allowing just 15 goals against. He made 15 saves in a 16-6 win over the Broncos earlier in the week and then set a career, and program-high, 24 saves in the team's first ever win over the Cardinals and just second SUNYAC victory ever. Steinhart stood on his head for the entirety of 60 minutes, facing 50 shots and allowing just nine goals in a crucial, 18-9 win.
In his two games played this week, he averaged just 7.76 goals against with a 72.2 save percentage with two wins en route to being named as the SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Steinhart and the Hawks are back in action Wednesday, facing St. Joseph's-Long Island at 3 p.m. on South Turf Field before heading back into conference action against one of the best in the SUNYAC in SUNY Geneseo Saturday at 1 p.m.
