SUNY New Paltz Men's Lacrosse Announces 2024 Schedule

New Paltz, N.Y. — The State University of New York at New Paltz men's lacrosse team released its schedule for the upcoming 2024 season Wednesday.

The Hawks will look to improve on the best year in the program's history. Last season, SUNY New Paltz set a program record for wins (8) and for the first time in history finished above .500. After securing their first ever playoff appearance, the Hawks will push for the SUNYAC Championship in 2024.

To begin the season, SUNY New Paltz will head South looking to get revenge against the Privateers of SUNY Maritime, who got the better the Hawks in their season opener last year. A week later, the team will host Farmingdale State and once again be looking to turn the tides from last season's results.
Men's Lacrosse 2023 Recap main story imageIn March, the Hawks will begin a set of three-straight road games, first, against Lasell University. The second will be against local rivals from Newburgh, Mount Saint Mary College whom they secured their first win of the season against in 2023. They follow up the matchup with a trip to Riverdale, N.Y. to face the Dolphins of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Hawks will return home and host SUNY Delhi, who the team beat by 10 goals last season. In its final two games before conference play, SUNY New Paltz will host both SUNY Poly and Manhattanville College.

The Hawks will open SUNYAC play away at Plattsburgh State. The Hawks bested the Cardinals last season by a score of 18-9 and will be looking to repeat the outcome in 2024. Next the team will meet the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport. In 2023, the Hawks beat SUNY Brockport in iconic fashion thanks to an overtime game-winner from rising-junior Anthony Senecal. The win saw the program secure its first ever playoff berth.

Oswego State will be the next SUNYAC foe that the Hawks will face. SUNY New Paltz will look to change its result from last season and defeat the Lakers. A week later the Hawks host the Knights of SUNY Geneseo, which will be an opportunity for the team to put their skills on display. The Knights ended the Hawks' season last year in the first round of the SUNYAC Championship. The No. 1 Knights went on to win the tournament and will certainly provide a test for SUNY New Paltz, undoubtedly entering the season as favorites to repeat in 2024.

SUNY New Paltz will have three games in two weeks to close out the regular season. The Hawks will travel to SUNY Potsdam in pursuit of back-to-back wins over the Bears. Next the team host SUNY Oneonta whom the Hawks took down in dramatic fashion. Rising-grad senior Deacon Hill went coast-to-coast against the Red Dragons and pierced their goal with a game-winner dagger. SUNY New Paltz will face back-to-back Red Dragons as they head to SUNY Cortland for their final game of the season.

The SUNYAC Championship first round will begin on May 1, the Championship game will be played on May 4.
