SUNY New Paltz Women’s Soccer Ties Plattsburgh 0-0

Plattsburgh, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz went on the road to face SUNY Plattsburgh Wednesday afternoon and earned a 0-0 result.

The Hawks pushed their overall record to 6-3-4 overall and 2-1-3 in the SUNYAC after recording their second straight 0-0 tie and third 0-0 tie amongst conference foes, securing scoreless draws against Oswego and Cortland, both on the road.

The team is 5-0 at home with 17 goals, but on the road its record drops to 1-3-4 with four goals scored. The offensive drought continued against the Cardinals despite generating 12 shots in the game, six each in both halves, but only three were on target.

Seven minutes into the game, SUNY New Paltz garnered a scoring chance off a corner kick opportunity. Mia Baldinger played a good service into the back post, which Plattsburgh struggled to clear. Brooke Kelleher was there to try and put away the loose ball, but the senior couldn't get enough on the attempt with Cardinals keeper Desiree DuBois easily corralling the attempt.

Kelleher had another good look on goal with nine minutes left in the first half. Kennedy Jones set her up nicely on a through ball played in. Kelleher struck a shot with pace about 20 yards out, but DuBois dove and handled the attempt as SUNY New Paltz didn't have numbers there to follow up on the strike. The Hawks continued to put the hosts on their heels to end the half. Alyssa Deutsch fed a ball down the flank to a speedy Samantha Gemmo who burned her defender to gain some open space in front of her, but a Cardinals defender came in with the late foul to slow the potential scoring threat resulting in a yellow card. Baldinger stepped up to take the ensuing free kick about 30 yards out, but no one could get on the end of the service into the box. Right back Grace Lien came in and tried an attempt on the loose ball cleared to her feet, but the shot was gathered by DuBois.
Jess Centeri SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week

Plattsburgh earned back-to-back corners to start the second half, but the Hawks did well to defend the set piece and didn't give up a shot on either play. SUNY New Paltz goalie Jess Centeri came through with three-straight saves midway through the half to keep the game scoreless, but neither team could garner momentum toward goal. Jones registered the last attempt for both teams in the final two minutes, but DuBois once again did her job in making the stop.

SUNY New Paltz held the advantage in shots, 12-8, but Plattsburgh had the edge in shots on frame, 5-3. The Hawks built possession in their offensive third and generated six corners to only two for the Cardinals.

Kelleher and Abby Macleod led SUNY New Paltz offensively with four and three shots, respectively. Centeri registered her fifth shutout after making five saves. Centeri, Kelleher, midfielder Laney Schmitz and the Hawks' backline of Maggie Cameron, Kara Jahrsdoerfer, Lien and Sam Wohlmut all logged a full 90 minutes in the shutout.

Following Wednesday's results, SUNY New Paltz stands in sixth in the league standings behind Cortland, Buffalo State, Plattsburgh, Oswego and Fredonia, respectively, through six games. The Hawks continue their SUNYAC schedule Saturday, hosting Buffalo State on South Turf Field at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
