SUNY New Paltz Cross Country Takes on Rowan Border Battle

Hawks Earn Eleven New Personal Bests; Melara-Perez clocks second fastest 8k in New Paltz History

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - The State University of New York at New Paltz cross country team(s) were in action today at the 10th Rowan Border Battle hosted by Rowan University. The men ran 8k and the women 6k at the Gloucester County Dream Park Cross Country Course. The men came in twenty-second out of thirty-five teams in the championship race. The women finished twenty-fifth out of thirty-one teams in the championship race. The Hawks earned eleven new personal bests and two season best performances.

Oliver Melara-Perez led the men's team with a thirty-first place finish in a new personal best time of 25:26.5. Melara-Perez performance places him second on the program's all-time 8k performance list. Evan Miller finished in ninety-first place with a new season best time of 26:21.4. Corbin Smith and Anthony Willis followed in one hundred sixty-first and two hundred-thirteenth place(s) with new personal best time(s) of 27:41.3 and 27:58.6 respectively. Aiden Hesseltine rounded out the Hawks' scoring five in two hundred twenty-ninth place with a time of 28:13.0. Joe Palazzolo and Mike Harbord finished as the Hawks' displacers in two hundred thirty-ninth and two hundred fiftieth place(s) with new personal best times of 28:25.6 and 28:42.9 respectively.

Orquidea Briceno finished fifty-eighth overall to lead the Hawks in a new personal best time of 22:58.4. Brinceno's performance today places her thirty-third on the program's all-time 6k performance list. Hunter Larson finished next for the Hawks in ninth-fifth place with a new personal best time of 23:39.4. Lillian Stephenson finished next in one hundred ninetieth place with a time of 25:08.6. Kate Turner finished fourth for the hawks in two hundred-second place with a new personal best time of 25:26.4. Ava Nargentino finished in two hundred thirty-first place with a time of 26:13.4 to close out the scoring five for the Hawks. Marcela Figueroa and Juliana Vanorden finished as the Hawks displacers in two hundred forty-ninth and two hundred fifty-eighth place(s) and new personal best times of 26:57.2 and 27:12.2 respectively.


Today's meet marked the end of the fall regular season's slate of meets. The cross country team(s) have next weekend off before returning to action on Saturday November 1 for the SUNYAC Cross Country Championships hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, NY.
