Salisbury, MD — The State University of New York New Paltz went on the road to face No.4 nationally ranked Salisbury University Saturday for its final SUNYAC game of the season and fell 6-0 to suffer its first loss in conference play.
The loss dropped the Hawks to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC, while improving the Seagulls to 13-2 and 4-0, respectively. The result also secured Salisbury the top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament with SUNY New Paltz capturing second as it plays hosts to the final four teams remaining in the league's postseason tournament Nov. 7-8.
The Seagulls dominated throughout the match, out-shooting the Hawks, 34-2, including 21-2 in shots on goal. Their first goal came in seventh minute after being awarded a stroke. They added on less than a minute into the second quarter to double their lead.
Rachel Tama recorded the first shot of the game for SUNY New Paltz three minutes later, which was saved by Salisbury's Kelly Davis. The Seagulls countered back down the field and found the back of the net once more before half's end to go into the break, up 3-0.
The third quarter went scoreless, but the final 15 minutes was all Seagulls as they piled on three more to take the comfortable six-goal win.
The Hawks allowed a season-high in shots, shots on goal and goals in the loss.
Gail Comiskey finished with 12 saves, three shy of her career-high, to register her third double-digit save performance of the season. Starting backs
Madelyn Graves and
Gabriella Barth, each tallied a defensive save. Offensively Tama recorded the team's only two shots in the game.
SUNY New Paltz concludes the regular season with two non-conference games, hosting Montclair State Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before taking on Vassar on North Turf Field on Senior Day at 11 a.m.
