CANTON, NY - The State University of New York at New Paltz cross country team(s) were in action today at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University. The men ran 8k and the women 6k at a very muddy Ronald C. Hoffman Cross Country Course on the campus of St. Lawrence. The men came in thirteenth out of twenty-six teams in the championship race. Today's thirteenth place finish was the best finish in the history of the men's program having bested the previous top finish of fourteenth in 2019. The women finished seventeenth out of twenty-five teams in the championship race.
Oliver Melara-Perez led the men's team with a forty-fourth place finish in a time of 26:29.1. Evan Miller finished fiftieth with a time of 26:38.0. Corbin Smith and Anthony Willis followed in eighty-third and one hundred and eleventh place(s) with time(s) of 27:32.6 and 28:12.0 respectively. Joe Palazzolo rounded out the Hawks' scoring five in one hundred fifteenth place with a time of 28:19.5. Mike Harbord and Aiden Hesseltine finished as the Hawks' displacers in one hundred twenty-second and one hundred thirty-seventh place(s) with times of 28:39.0 and 29:10.2 respectively.
Orquidea Briceno finished sixty-third overall to lead the Hawks in a time of 23:47.1. Hunter Larson finished next for the Hawks in seventy-fourth place with a time of 24:13.3. Lillian Stephenson finished next in ninety-sixth place with a time of 25:16.0. Marcela Figueroa finished in one hundred thirty-sixth place with a time of 26:42.0. Juliana Vanorden finished in one hundred fiftieth place with a time of 27:31.3 to close out the scoring five for the Hawks. Adelyn Ameigh-Coggen finished as the Hawks displacer in one hundred fifty-second place and a time of 27:42.2.
This was the last cross country meet for four of today's runners. Seniors Oliver Melara-Perez, Joe Palazzolo, Lillian Stephenson, and Graduate Student Hunter Larson completed their final cross country meet as Hawks.
Today's NCAA Regional Championship is the final meet for the fall campaign. The cross country team(s) will return in late March for the Ramapo T&F Invitational and their spring non-traditional track season of three meets this spring.
