NEW PALTZ, NY – Luca Maneri of the SUNY New Paltz men's cross-country team has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Athlete of the Week, becoming the first Hawk to earn a weekly honor from the conference.
Maneri made history following an impressive debut for the Hawks, becoming the first SUNY New Paltz student-athlete to receive NJAC Athlete of the Week recognition as New Paltz begins its inaugural season competing in the conference.
The Hawks opened their 2026 campaign at the Fred Pavlich Invitational, hosted by Bard College at Montgomery Place. Both the men's and women's teams competed in the 5K, with the New Paltz men placing fourth among 12 teams.
Maneri led the way in his first race wearing blue and orange, finishing second overall after clocking a time of 16:17.6 on the hilly 5K course.
Maneri and the Hawks return to action Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Ron Stonitsch Invitational, hosted by Vassar College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
