SUNY New Paltz Hosts Second National Girls and Women in Sports Day Event

New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz hosted a National Girls and Women in Sports Day event on Saturday, Feb. 7 for young female athletes in the surrounding area.

Girls ages five and up had the opportunity to explore six different sports – field hockey, tennis, cross country, soccer, volleyball, and softball – while engaging with SUNY New Paltz's female student-athletes. More than 50 young participants and 40 Hawks student-athletes, representing six women's varsity team took part in the event, which was organized by women's soccer coach Mike Eckberg.

The interactive clinic provided a space for young athletes to stay active, develop skills, and try out new sports while connecting with collegiate student-athletes who serve as role models. Following the event, participants enjoyed free admission to the SUNY New Paltz women's basketball game at the Hawk Center.

"We are excited to host the next generation of girls in sports, and we are very thankful to our staff and student-athletes for helping out on a great event!" said Director of Athletes, Wellness & Recreation Renee Bostic.
