New Paltz, NY — Anthony Pericolosi was selected as the D3Baseball Team of the Week at outfield, announced Wednesday by D3baseball.com.
Pericolosi, a senior from Rockville Centre, NY, continued a nine-game hitting streak in prolific fashion this past week as he led the Hawks to five consecutive wins against Saint Elizabeth University, Purchase College and SUNY Canton.
The national player of the week accolade for SUNY New Paltz is the first since
Tommy Kreider's second base selection last spring. Pericolosi caps a career week, also named SUNYAC Player of the Week, after producing 14 hits — including six extra base hits with three doubles, a triple and two home runs —10 runs, 13 RBI and two stolen bases, while batting .583 with a slugging percentage of 1.042.
In a 12-1 win over Saint Elizabeth, Pericolosi added a base hit, and two runs scored before going 3-for-6 in a 15-8 win over Purchase, while adding a run scored. He went a perfect 4-for-4 in game one against Canton, producing three runs and a career-high six RBI. The right fielder then went 6-for-9 in the doubleheader Saturday against the Roos, registering four runs and two RBI, as the Hawks rolled to a SUNYAC series sweep.
Defensively, Pericolosi was perfect in the field as he tallied a 1.000 fielding percentage with nine catches, eight putouts and an assist as he threw out a runner at the plate in game two against Canton to help preserve an eventual 12-0 shutout.
The D3baseball.com Team of the Week, in its 14th season, is a weekly honor roll that recognizes top performers at each nine positions across Division III.
