SUNY New Paltz Women’s Lacrosse Earns Record Seven to All-SUNYAC Team

Lexi Atwater Named SUNYAC Attacker of the Year; Morgan Atwater Named SUNYAC Midfielder of the Year

Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its annual award winners Wednesday with the Hawks earning a record seven All-SUNYAC selections, including a record four All-SUNYAC First Team picks, as well as copping both the program's first ever SUNYAC Attacker of the Year award and the second consecutive Midfielder of the Year award.

The program's 27th season saw SUNY New Paltz excel once again and push the ceiling even higher with its performances on the field. The team's 13-5 overall record is the second double digit win mark in program history; their 7-2 SUNYAC mark was the best ever for the program and their 8-0 home record adds another superlative to the history books. The Hawks made their fourth straight appearance in the SUNYAC tournament and earned their second straight spot in the SUNYAC Tournament semifinals. As the first of the postseason awards to be announced, the SUNYAC coaches chose seven Hawks to the yearly honor, with Lexi Atwater named Attacker of the Year and sister Morgan Atwater named Midfielder of the Year.

Lexi Atwater SUNYAC Attacker of the Year Lexi Atwater (junior, attack)
Brighton, NY/Brighton HS

Coming into the 2025 season primed for a breakout sophomore year, Lexi Atwater rose to the top of SUNYAC's premier lacrosse players.

An All-SUNYAC Second Team pick a year ago, Atwater not only earned her initial spot on the All-SUNYAC First Team but also became the first Hawk to be named SUNYAC Attacker of the Year. Starting all 16 regular season and all nine SUNYAC games, she scored a team high 65 goals, with 35 in SUNYAC as the conference's second leading scorer. She added six assists for 71 season points, which ranked second on the team.

On the year, Atwater led the Hawks in both shots (135) and shots on goal (105) for an 81.4-shots-on-goal percentage while also leading the team in scoring eight times with three times coming in SUNYAC competition. The Brighton, NY native notched a team-high four game winning goals, including in the most dramatic fashion with a last second goal to push SUNY New Paltz past then No. 19 Colorado College to secure the program's first ever win over a nationally ranked opponent. She was the catalyst in the game, scoring six of the team's eight goals to lead the way. Atwater totaled five-plus goals six times, including a career-high seven against Utica as well as a career-high eight points twice, which came in wins over the Pioneers and Manhattanville.

Atwater was also key on the draw circle, tallying 31 draw controls, while adding 29 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

In SUNYAC play, she scored six goals twice during the season with a game-high seven in a 19-8 rout of Oneonta. While her scoring production was slightly down from a year ago (nine goals, including one game winner) her ability to get the ball forward for the score landed her with 44 assists (30 in SUNYAC play) on the season, third among all players in SUNYAC.
