SUNY New Paltz Women’s Cross Country Announces Incoming Recruiting Class for 2025 Season

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz women's cross country team announced its incoming class for the 2025 season Thursday.

The Hawks are coming off a solid third place finish at the SUNYAC Championship meet, as they developed some young talent during both their fall and spring seasons highlighted by sophomore transfer Orquidea Briceno who earned All-SUNYAC First Team honors after a fifth-place finish at the conference meet.

SUNY New Paltz hopes the incoming additions will make a similar impact entering the 2025-26 season, replacing production from a solid graduating class of Mackenzie Barcomb, Marcella Candlin, Mikayla Cecora, Jazmyne Daily-Simpson, Allison English and Crystal Rustami.

Kate Turner '29
Saratoga Springs, NY
Saratoga Springs High School
Kinetic RC

On any other high school girls cross country team in New York, Kate Turner would have been that team's top runner. Yet, as it turns out, Turner was a four-year member of one of the nation's premier high school girls cross country programs — the Blue Streaks of Saratoga Springs High School. Breaking into the starting seven on varsity was a challenging task, as the Blue Streaks had amassed numerous consecutive Suburban Council, NYSPHSAA and NYS Federation championships, in addition to running prominently on the national scene.

Turner achieved great success at both the junior varsity and varsity level for Saratoga Springs.  In 2021, her first season, she led the Blue Streak junior varsity to a Suburban Council championship, finishing fourth with a time of 19:20.97 over three miles.  Moving up to varsity for the Section 2, Class A championship, she finished 31st with a time of 19:20.98, helping Saratoga Springs to the Section 2 title.

In 2022, Turner again led the Blue Steak junior varsity to the Suburban Council title, finishing first with a time of 18.57.77 over the 5K course. Again, moving up to varsity for the Section 2, Class A championship, she finished 12th with a time of 19.25.4, helping the Blue Streaks to another Section 2, Class A title.

In 2023, Turner ran exclusively with varsity, placing 17th in the Suburban Council championship, scoring as Saratoga Spring again won the team title. In the Section 2, Class A championship, she finished 12th with a time of 18:37.3 helping the Blue Streaks to the Class A title. At the NYSPHSAA meet, won by Saratoga Springs, Turner finished 24th with a time of 19:26.5. In the NYS Federation meet, she finished 22nd in a time of 19:37.5 with the Blue Streaks winning the championship. At the NXR New England/New York Regional meet, Turner finished 24th with a time of 19.38.8 with the Blue Streaks winning the regional championship.  At the Nike Cross Country Nationals, Turner finished 135th with a time of 19.39.7, helping Saratoga Springs to a sixth-place national finish.

The 2024 season saw an influx of very talented eighth and ninth grade runners join the program. At the Burnt Hill Invitational, she won the junior varsity run with a time of 19:50.5, leading Saratoga Springs to the team title. At the Suburban Council junior varsity championship, she led the Blue Streaks to the team title with a fifth-place finish with a time of 19.49.2.

Turner also participated in indoor track for six seasons with the Blue Streaks, running the 1,000-meters, 1,500-meters, 1,600-meters, mile, 3,000-meters, 2-mile, and 4xmile relay.  Running five seasons of outdoor track, Turner ran the 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 2K Steeplechase, 4x400m, 4x800m, and 4x1,600m relay and the distance medley relay 4,000m.
