MAHWAH, NJ —The State University of New York at New Paltz cross country team(s) were in action this afternoon for day one of the Ramapo College T&F Invitational hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Ramapo College is a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) which SUNY New Paltz will join this Fall. The first day of competition featured the three long distance track events of the 3000m steeplechase, 5000m, and 10000m. The women are currently in sixth place and the men are tied for thirteenth through the first day.

Newcomer Mary Toner started the meet for the Hawks in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 15:30.90 finishing in eighth place. Hunter Larson took fourth in the 10000m with a new school record and personal best time of 39.46.50. Ava Nargentino finished in twelfth place in a new personal best time of 43:21.89 in the 10000m. Nargentio's time is now the fourth fastest time in program history. The women's 5000m featured a quintet of Hawks in the twelve and half lap race. Orquidea Briceno finished fourth overall to lead the Hawks in a new personal best time of 18:52.83. Marcela Figueroa finished next for the Hawks in thirteenth place in a new personal best time of 20:14.49. Kate Turner finished in nineteenth place with a time of 21:16.77. Juliana Vanorden finished in twenty-first place with a time of 21:46.73. Rounding out the Hawks in the 5k was Lillian Stephenson in twenty-fourth place with a time of 22:22.27.
Brandon Gardner was first up for the men's team in the 3000m steeplechase. Gardner finished with a time of 11:42.89 for eighth place. Anthony Willis led the men's team with a fifth-place finish in the 10000m and a new personal best time of 34:42.89 and third fastest time in program history. The men's 5000m featured a trio of Hawks in the final race of the first day. Michael Harbord finished in thirteenth place with a time of 16:12.18. Joe Palazzolo finished next in twentieth place with a new personal best time of 16:29.16. Corbin Smith rounded out the Hawks in the race with a twenty-ninth place finish and a time of 16:59.72.
The Hawks will return Saturday for day two of the Ramapo College T&F Invitational at 11:00 AM in Mahwah, NJ.
