SUNY New Paltz Men’s Volleyball Secures Spot in NCAA Tournament

Hawks earn at-large bid and faces No. 9 conference rival NYU in round one at Springfield College

Springfield, MA — The State University of New York New Paltz are headed back to the NCAA Tournament.

For the seventh time in program history, the No. 8 nationally ranked Hawks (22-7) will pursue a national championship run, aiming to reclaim the championship trophy seven years since their last national title win in 2019, and a decade since their first championship in 2016.

Despite coming up short in the United Volleyball Conference championship, the Hawks punched their ticket to the second round national tournament with an at-large bid, where they are set to face conference opponent and No. 9 nationally ranked NYU (19-6) at hosting Springfield College on April 17.

In regular-season conference play, SUNY New Paltz bested the Violets in four sets in their first victory over NYU since 2023. Last season, the Violets defeated the Hawks in the UVC semifinal round in four sets, knocking them out of NCAA tournament contention.

In postseason play, NYU fell in the UVC semifinal round to MIT, who eventually defeated SUNY New Paltz in the championship round.

The winner of the match between the Hawks and Violets will move on to the quarterfinal round, where they will face either the top-seeded and No.1 nationally ranked Springfield or the winner of the first-round match between Buffalo State and New Jersey City.

Currently, the second round match time between SUNY New Paltz and NYU is TBA.
