New Paltz Women’s Tennis Dismantles RPI, 9-0

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (7-1, 3-0 SUNYAC) defeated the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1-1), 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

New Paltz started doubles off with a bang, winning all three matches and only dropping six games in total. At first doubles, sophomores Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the Hawks with an 8-3 victory, followed by sophomore Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y.) and freshman Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich.) at second doubles, 8-1, and senior Lindsey Garyn (Melville, N.Y.) and junior Juliette Brandon (Bronx, N.Y.) at flight three, 8-2.

The Hawks cruised past RPI in singles as well. Wilson led the team at No. 1 by taking down Zosia Casterline, 6-1, 6-0. Garyn handled Jessica Sitzer, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2, while DiPaulo upended Emily Broadbent at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 4, Esposito had a tight match but pulled away with a win, 6-4, 7-6 (3), while Munroe overpowered Meghan Olson, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Finally, at No. 6, Brandon downed Christina Ciamarrow, 6-3, 6-0.

New Paltz women's tennis will conclude its fall dual-match season at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, against Vassar College at home.
