POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team were on the road this weekend for what was supposed to be a three-day tournament at Vassar College. They played Friday and Saturday in tournament play format. The Sunday portion of the competition was canceled due to poor weather forecasted on Sunday. The Hawks faced a quartet of teams from the Liberty League, UAA, and NESCAC including host Vassar College, New York University, Bates College, Connecticut College.  

"Friday, against a very strong Vassar opponent Delphine Larosiliere lost a closed match going down in a 7pt tiebreaker. In doubles, our 3rd doubles team of Angelica Gabriel & Olivia Kunz also lost a very close match losing in a 7pt tiebreaker. Saturday's competition saw the Hawks compete with very strong line ups from Connecticut College Hamilton and NYU. Some very strong performances saw wins from the following: Angelica Gabriel and Olivia Kunz won doubles against Connecticut 6-3; Gabriel won singles against Connecticut 7-6 (7-2) in a tie breaker. Olivia Kunz won singles: 6-4 against Connecticut College followed by Patrycja Filonik and Alex Krol vs Connecticut 7-5 win in doubles play. This concludes our tournament format season one in which we have competed at a very high level of Div III tennis. This level of play should prepare us for our upcoming conference matches. I'm very happy at the high level of performance from each player on the team." said Coach Rob Bruley. 

 
The Hawks will return next Saturday for their inaugural conference match in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Hawks will head on the road to face Kean University in Union, NJ at 1:00 PM.
