Box ScoreGENESEO, N.Y. – The third-seeded State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (9-10, 3-3 SUNYAC) lost to the second-seeded and nationally No. 12 Cortland Red Dragons (15-3, 5-1 SUNYAC), 2-1, on Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the 2010 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Field Hockey Tournament.
Cortland struck first in the 17th minute off a penalty corner. Quiera DeCosta received a rebound on the right post and finished, giving the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead.
At the break, Cortland held an 11-5 edge in shots and a 7-4 margin in penalty corners.
The contest remained 1-0 for roughly 40 minutes as the majority of the game was played in the midfield.
However, the blue and orange found the back of the cage with the equalizer in the 55th minute. Senior forward
Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, N.Y.) took advantage of a New Paltz penalty corner as she netted the goal.
The score remained, 1-1, through 70 minutes of regulation, forcing overtime.
The Red Dragons buried the game-winner at the 1:45 mark of overtime. Liz DeWaters found

On the afternoon, Cortland held the upper hand in shots, 16-8, and took 13 penalty corners to New Paltz's nine.
Freshman goalkeeper
Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y.) allowed two goals while making eight saves in the matchup. Cortland's Ashley Hughes allowed one goal and turned away four shots.
New Paltz finishes the season with an overall record of 9-10. This marks the most wins in a single season in program history.
