NEW PALTZ, NY- The New Paltz Hawks had double-figure kills from two players and hit .330 as a team to improve to 19-15 overall with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-26) win over Division I New Haven.
Before the game, the Hawks honored Jake Moore, Daniel Liberto, Eric Rothbard and Mike Fink as they played their final home game in a Hawk uniform.
Liberto and Kevin Stross each had a game-high 14 kills, while Liberto hit .500 and Stross finished with a .722 hitting percentage. Stross also added six blocks, five solo and Liberto added two. Moore had nine kills and Jonathan Van Dyke added eight for New Paltz. Andrew Cassius handed out a game-high 46 assists and broke the single season record of 1297 assists in a season with 1336, dating back to records from 1995. Fink led the defense with nine digs and Rothbard chipped in with seven. Mike Van Tyne had five blocks along with three kills for the Hawks.
Julian du Pont led the Chargers with 11 kills and Ben Hollies and Peter Kazlas each had seven a piece to pace New Haven. Ryan Earl handed out 28 assists and Gregg Brisbin had six kills and three solo blocks. New Haven falls to 5-12 overall.
The Hawks finish the regular season and earned a third seed in the NECVA Metro. The Hawks will be back in action when tournament brackets are released next week.
