HYANNIS, MA- Despite dominating in every offensive aspect of the game, #8 Medaille College edged out the Hawks in the opening round of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Tournament. The Hawks as a team finished with a better hitting percentage, .348, compared to Medaille's .271 and the Hawks had 20 (79-59) more kills than the Mavericks. Medaille won in five sets (31-29, 23-30, 21-30, 30-24, 15-11) to improve to 21-9 overall and will square off against top seeded Rivier at 11 am. The Hawks finish the season with a 19-16 record.
Jake Moore had his best game of the year with a game-high 28 kills and a .489 hitting percentage.
Kevin Stross continued to show why he is the nations leading hitter with 17 kills and a .467 hitting percentage.
Mike Van Tyne chipped in with 11 kills and
Daniel Liberto had 10.
Andrew Cassius had a double-double, handing out a game-high 70 assists, including 11 digs and
Mike Fink led the defense with 15 digs. Stross, Liberto and Van Tyne all had two blocks a piece and Moore and Van Tyne each had two service aces.
Andrew Nawotka led the Mavericks with 15 kills, including five blocks on defense and Ryan Murdie added 12 kills and four blocks. Erin Kelly and Nick Johnson each recorded 10 kills each, including four blocks from Kelly and five from Johnson. Ryan Maxwell handed out 50 assists and Dan Jackson led the defense with 11 digs.
