CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's team (2-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) enjoyed a successful first day of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) East Division Pool Play, defeating SUNY Plattsburgh (2-1, 0-1 SUNYAC) by a count of 9-0 on Friday afternoon on the campus of SUNY Cortland.

The No. 1 doubles team of seniors Stephanie Schara (Huntington, N.Y.) and Lindsey Garyn (Melville, N.Y.) had the closest match of the contest, winning, 8-6, over Rachel Hodnett and Jessica Paquette. Sophomores Montana Wilson (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y.) teamed up at No. 2 doubles to down Samantha Fasciano and Amy Rich, 8-0, while sophomore Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y.) and freshman Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich.) topped Caitlin Belladone and Jennifer Paull, 8-1, at flight three doubles.

The Hawks would go on to cruise through singles as well. Schara took down Hodnett (6-2, 6-0) at No. 1, Wilson handled Paquette (6-2, 6-1) at No. 2, Garyn overpowered Kristen Casse (6-0, 6-3) at No. 3, DiPaulo upended Meghan Ryan (6-1, 6-0) at No. 4, Esposito downed Fasciano (6-1, 6-4) at No. 5 and Munroe blanked Belladone (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6.

SUNYAC East Division Pool Play continues tomorrow in Cortland, N.Y., as New Paltz will face SUNY Oneonta and host Cortland. All of Sunday's matches were moved to Saturday because of the threat of rain. Times for both matches are to be determined, but the event will begin at 10 a.m. and multiple courts will be used.
