Hawk Women's Tennis Pounds Oswego, 9-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 SUNYAC) kicked its season off on the right foot Tuesday afternoon in Oswego, N.Y., downing SUNY Oswego (0-1, 0-1 SUNYAC), 9-0, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) match.

Tuesday's contest, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 4, and was moved to Tuesday due to impending inclement weather, served as a lopsided affair, as the Hawks made quick work of the Lakers.

The closest match of the day came at No. 1 doubles, where seniors Stephanie Schara (Huntington, N.Y.) and Lindsey Garyn (Melville, N.Y.) defeated the Oswego tandem of Lauren MacHose and Nicole Leader, 8-4.

Flights two and three of doubles each went 8-0 in favor of New Paltz, giving the Hawks a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.

New Paltz's dominance throughout the lineup in singles resembled its performance in doubles. The blue and orange's singles players combined for six points to spell out the final score.

The Hawks travel this weekend to Cortland, N.Y., for SUNYAC Pool Play. New Paltz starts the event with a 4 p.m. neutral-site match against SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday.
