Tournament Website

MANLIUS, N.Y. – After trailing in doubles play against SUNY Oneonta (8-4) on Saturday, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (8-1) rallied behind its depth, winning at flights two through six of singles to move on to the title match at the 2011 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, which is being held at the Eastside Racquet Club. The Hawks won this semifinal match by a 6-3 final.

New Paltz meets up with league nemesis SUNY Geneseo in the championship match tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., while SUNY Cortland and Oneonta will do battle in the third-place match at 8:30 a.m. This year's SUNYAC Championships, which are being held in a team playoff format, run from Friday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 9.

Junior Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and freshman Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) prevented Oneonta from taking a 3-0 lead into singles play, as the No. 2 tandem blanked the Red Dragons' pair, 8-0. Inspired play throughout each singles flight helped New Paltz come away with the win. Both sophomore Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and senior Ingrid Maryansky (Forest Hills, N.Y./Forest Hills) had little trouble with their opponents, winning 6-1, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-2 at flights two and five of singles, respectively. Senior Juliette Brandon (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) conceded just five service games in her 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Emily Maggiore at flight four of singles, while junior Alli Esposito (Bellmore, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and freshman Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) each won tight matches at their respective singles positions of flight three and flight six.

New Paltz came into the tournament as the East Division's No. 1 seed, while Oneonta entered as the East Division's No. 3 seed.
