Messiah College Visitor's Guide

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (14-5-3) will be headed to Messiah College's campus in Grantham, Pa., this weekend for the sectional rounds of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Hawks find themselves opposite the top-ranked and host Falcons (19-0-1) in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m.

New Paltz advanced to the third round of the tournament after defeating Rowan University, 2-1, in overtime Sunday evening in Lynchburg, Va. In the first round, the Hawks tied Lynchburg College, 0-0, and advanced, 3-2, on penalty kicks. The Hawks are unbeaten in their past seven matches, with their last loss coming on Oct. 12 against Drew University.

While this is the Hawks' first appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Messiah is no stranger to the national stage, as the Falcons have captured three national championships and have appeared in the national tournament for 12 seasons. New Paltz earned the State University of New York Athletic Conference's (SUNYAC) automatic bid into the tournament, while Messiah gained entry into the tournament by means of the Commonwealth Conference's automatic bid.

On the other side of the Messiah sectional grouping, No. 7 Amherst College (19-0-0) squares off with No. 4 Johns Hopkins University (21-0-0) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of the two third-round games will play on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. with a berth into the national semifinals on the line.

Tickets are required for all spectators during the event. General admission for adults is $6, while tickets for students with valid identification and senior citizens cost $3. Children ages 2-12 years old are $2.
