No. 15 Men’s Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight; Downs Lancaster Bible, 3-1

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team's (9-7) starting lineup dominated on the attack, as the Hawks defeated visiting Lancaster Bible College (1-13) by a 3-1 (25-11, 29-31, 25-9, 25-19) final in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in the Hawk Center. The victory marked the Hawks' fourth straight.

New Paltz put its starters in during the first and third sets, and the Hawks won each of those frames convincingly. They hit .583 in the first set en route to a 25-11 victory before hitting above the .500 mark once again (.522) in the third.

The New Paltz reserves went back and forth with the Chargers in the second set, and neither team was able to put each other away until Lancaster Bible scored two straight points to break a 29-all tie. Dan McAllister notched back-to-back kills to give Lancaster Bible the victory in the second set. The Hawks' “B” squad redeemed itself in fourth set, hitting at a .312 clip. New Paltz never trailed in that final frame, and the home team walked away winners.

Senior outside hitter Keith MacDonald (Monroe Township, N.J.), junior middle blocker Kevin Stross (Port Washington, N.Y.) and freshman setter Brian Smith (Massapequa, N.Y.) all tied for the match-high in kills with 10, but the most impressive offensive figure of the afternoon came from Stross. He achieved a .909 hitting percentage, landing 10 kills in 11 total attempts. Freshman setter Misa Garo (Bronx, N.Y.) drew the start at setter, handing out 22 assists, while senior setter Andrew Cassius (Brooklyn, N.Y.) totaled the team-high with 26 on the day. Junior defensive specialist/libero Michael Dauernheim (Bay Shore, N.Y.) collected a team-high seven digs, while Stross led the front row with one block solo and four block assists.

For Lancaster Bible, A.J. Longacre tied for the match-high in kills with 10, while B.J. Boosz dished out a match-high 27 assists. Dan McAllister finished the contest with a match-high 10 digs, while Jake Clemenson was a force on the front row with two block solos and two block assists.

New Paltz looks to level its record in the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) on Tuesday, Feb. 22, when it travels to the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
